How to Create Original Blog Post Ideas

Blogging is a lot tougher than I thought it would be. I would be lying if I said I never struggle with writer's block and to be honest, the biggest challenge I've discovered is keeping my content fresh. My goal when I first started blogging was to try and blog at least twice a week. In recent weeks, I've been falling flat on this. Because I've been struggling with keeping my blogging goal, I decided to start searching for resources that would help aid me when I feel stuck.

I've compiled a list of some useful resources I have discovered to help brainstorm some new blogging concepts.

Blog Topic Generators

These useful tools can help inspire you and hopefully lead you to fresh and click-worth content. Granted not all topics generated are great, but they are a good place to start.

HubSpot’s Blog Topic Generator - This free resource allows you to input three different nouns and it will create 5 blog topic ideas. Sometimes just seeing different words arranged together can help get the creative juices flowing.

Portent’s Content Idea Generator - This is very similar to HubSpots Topic Generator, but the main difference between them is that this generator has a personality of it's own. It will add jokes or funny phrases which creates a less serious topic. If you're looking to create a witty or funny topic, this is the best generator for that. My favorite topic it came up with is "How Blogging Can Make You Sick" haha.

Build Your Own Blog’s Idea Generator - You don't input in any keywords, just simply hit the "generate blog post idea" button and will cycle through a series of ideas. Some of them may not be related to you blogging niche at all, so if you come across this just keep hitting that button.

Blog Title Idea Generator - This is almost identical is the above generator, but you can never have too many resources. You may find some different ideas here that the above generator didn't find.

Social Media

Facebook

I wasn't going to add this one because it seemed too obvious. But a lot of people will sometimes over look Facebook (I'm guilty of that) or completely forget to utilize it as a useful blogging tool. Facebook Groups are the best places to start. I'm a member of several blogging, business and design related ones and many of them include the target market I'm aiming to hit. Browse through comments and questions others may have and you should be able to create some exciting content. If you're interested in joining Facebook groups, I'm including a list of some of my favorite ones.

Twitter

I don't utilize the power of Twitter as much as I should. My lack of knowledge and understanding of it is partly to blame. I've only recently discovered how useful it can be. I started by following bloggers with similarly niches as mine - designers, travelers, business etc. I'll scroll through and read their tweets and see what topics or trends they're discussing and try and put my own unique spin on these ideas. The goal is to use their ideas as a foundation without blatantly stealing their topic. I'll also search for hashtags that my followers are using or search for questions others are asking.

Daily Experience

Don't forget - each one of you leads exciting and interesting lives and it's important to not forget about the experiences you have. Each individual experience you have is unique to you and only you can tell it. It' doesn't matter if you work in a office for 8 hours or if you're a stay at home mom, there's always a topic hidden in your daily activities. Be sure to take some time to reflect on your day and clear your mind, you'll be surprised what you can create.

Inspiration is Everywhere

These are just some resources to help you brainstorm some new topic ideas. Within the past 2 weeks, I've started implementing these ideas and I have plenty of concepts that I can't wait to share with all of you. Remember, not every topic will make it to the final round so don't be afraid to cut a topic you aren't entirely excited about.

How do you come up with blog post topics? What do you do when you're struggling with writers block? I would love to hear your ideas!
